Know the characteristics of a video file

The extension of a video file is not sufficient for full features such types of codec used to play the video or audio. Most videos are currently WIDELY DivX and it is impossible to know the codecs needed to play the video without using an application.

There are several programs but MediaInfo seems to be more practical and it is Open Source.
To download it, go to the link http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/fr.

To use it, install it and then click the right mouse button on your video file and select MediaInfo. All information concerning your file will be displayed along with links to audio and video codecs needed if necessary.
